Ceylon New Vithanakande
New Vithanakande is a family plantation acquired by the Pilapitiya family in 1940. The 13-hectare estate and its tea factory are located on a hill about 600 meters above sea level, overlooking the Sinharaja Rainforest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on the outskirts of Ratnapura. The factory, in addition to processing its own leaves, relies on a network of over 6,000 small producers who grow tea on the valley slopes.
Because it is grown at low altitude (about 600 meters above sea level), New Vithanakande teas are distinguished by their intense, malty, and sweet character. Classified FBOPFEXSP for their rich silvery buds.
